U-13 Dana Cup Champions Receive Award from City of Burnaby
As the U-13 Tulis girls prepare for their upcoming soccer tournament in Sweden and Denmark this coming summer, the City of Burnaby took time to recognize the accomplishments of Tulis’s 2009 boys group who brought home the first place trophy from Denmark’s prestigious tournament last year. On February 15, 2010 Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan, presented the Roman Tulis U-13 boys, the 2009 Dana Cup Tournament Champions with an award to recognize their huge accomplishment.
Mayor Corrigan also presented the Roman Tulis Soccer School with an award which read, “In recognition of your many years of dedication and commitment to youth soccer. On behalf of the Burnaby City Council and the citizens of Burnaby, thank you for promoting sport and excellence and for teaching our youth to be the best they can be.”
Mayor Corrigan said later his speech, “We are proud that the Roman Tulis Soccer School calls Burnaby home. (The school) very much emphasizes our view in Burnaby of sports excellence. The idea is that these recourses that we build in our community are encouraging young people to reach the pinnacle of excellence and I think this is a tremendous example of the success of those programs when kids like these are going to Europe and successfully entering a tournament and becoming champions against European competition. It shows that we CAN produce great young athletes in this country in the sport of soccer!”
The Mayor went on to say, “I am so pleased to recognize Roman Tulis for all that he has done for soccer here in B.C. and particularly for soccer here in this community. (Roman) can be very proud of the accomplishments of these young men who are tonight recognized by Burnaby City Council and certainly recognized by all of our community.”
